Here is the official High School Percussion Ensemble calendar of events. This should be referred to as the official rehearsal and performance schedule. Only ensemble performances and trips will be listed on the montvillemusic.com calendar.
The MTHS Field Corps had their final competitions of the season- breaking over 90 points again and achieving a high level of performance. We competed at Nationals coming in 10th out of 16 bands from all over the east coast. The race was tight as places 10-7 were all within .9 of a point from one another. It was a great way to end a really great season.
Here we have a picture of the group in 30 degree weather in their visual warm up at 6am. It was an early start but the kids made the most of it! Here’s to another season in the books with MTHS and a successful one introducing plenty of new faces to the band.
Many thanks to the band boosters which helped make this season a success. From the food you guys get the kids, the way you guys worked the home competition, to the tailgate after our nationals performance- this band parent organization is the best! Thanks so much!
Here’s another picture at the awards ceremony. Thanks MTHS Band for another great year!
Just as a reminder, we have our annual band banquet on Thursday, November 14th and we have our percussion ensemble sign up meeting on Tuesday, November 12th at 6pm in the high school band room! Hope to see all there as we kick off our winter season! Thank you all and congratulations to the 2013 Mustang Marching Band!
The MTHS band has come such a long way so far this season. Proof has been in our last 2 performances- States at Rutgers University was the second time this band has had a solid performance. We walked off the field after having the most exciting performance of the season. The pieces started to click and the energy was palpable from the first step off. We finished with a score of 79.028 and in 4th place winning the caption award for Best Effect. The judges had some really nice compliments for the groups’ performance and the design was loved by all.
Our home show was yesterday, our 9th annual Mustang Classic. 7 bands from around the state and NY came to our show and performed their shows for the hometown crowd. The MTHS Marching Band took the field at 745 pm and blew the place up! They performed with such controlled intensity- I couldn’t have been prouder. The best judge’s comment was ” I can tell your students love to perform and love to perform this show.” We have 2 weeks left in the season so come out and join us in Old Bridge and Met Life for our final two shows of the season.
The MTHS Marching Band had two competitions over the last two weeks. First we went to Paquannock where we finished second (by only .075) and won best visual, best music, and best colorguard. The band had a pretty good performance and we were still ironing out all the kinks in the show.
This past weekend we were at the Yamaha Cup held at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Here’s a picture of our preshow warm up:
The band had their best show of the season at Met Life Stadium. They walked off the field feeling excited about their accomplishments on the field. They truly played and performed quite well. We finished in 3rd place and received many great comments from the judges. We have so much to add to the show still so we’re excited to turn the show around yet another time before states in two weeks.
Here is a link to our show performance at Met Life Stadium this weekend. Looking forward to two weeks of hard work to make this show go up another level.
The 2013 MTHS Field Corps did their annual Parent Preview night at the High School Field this past week. The parents got a chance to see what their kids have been fervently practicing for the past few weeks. A lot of great comments we made by the parents seeing their child for the first time perform as a part of this highly competitive machine.
This past Saturday, the MTHS Field Corps participated in their first competition at Morris Knolls High School. They placed 2nd and won best music, best colorguard, and best visual. We went and performed the closing number as a musical standstill. We have so many gears to go these next couple weeks and the students are ready to practice and make this show a very exciting, captivating, and fun program.
The MTHS Field Corps is starting up their new season. After a precamp week and a week at away camp, the marching band is off to a great start. The band moved their away camp to a new location: Camp Louemma in Sussex, NJ. The kids had a great time at the facilities and worked really hard on learning their show. The members are marching and playing on a new level and both the students and staff are excited for the upcoming season. Looking forward to a great season for MTHS. Check back with us for competition updates!!!
On Sunday, June 16, 2013 the Montville High School Percussion Ensemble performed at Merkin Hall in New York City as part of the NLPA winners concert. They performed the piece, “Are You Prepared” by Joe Bergen as the final performance of the night. Many talented musicians and chamber groups performed as part of this event from all over the country. There were groups from Canada and California to name a few. Congratulations on a fine performance and a New York City debut for this ensemble!
Check out the combined Middle and High School Percussion Ensembles this Friday for the Make Music NY Festival. We will start at St. Paul’s Chapel on Broadway and Fulton and finish up in the Financial District performing a piece called “The Greater Learning” and a world premiere of “Somewhere Here in the World”. Details can be found here.
On Wednesday, May 29th, the Lazar Jazz Band, LMS Flute Choir, local band Take a Chance, and Lazar’s own Fridays @ 4 teacher rock band took the stage to raise money for the arts. Over 200 people came out to the event and I took the stage in a singing performance for the first time ever. We raised over 1,000 dollars that night and it was a huge success we plan on repeating and incorporating as many Arts programs as possible. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the arts at Lazar.
Last Friday, the MTHS Symphonic Band had the pleasure of performing at the Music in the Parks Festival in Jackson, NJ. Afterwards, the band, joined with the school orchestra and choir, spent a day filled with fun at Sixflags Great Adventure. Everyone had a good 6 hours to ride all the rollercoasters and other attractions.
Students having fun on one of the many rollercoasters at Sixflags Great Adventure.
The Music in the Parks programs also graciously provided a buffet lunch. At the end of the day, awards were held in the Movietown theater in Sixflags.
